A Monument to the Heroic Fighters

The heroic death of some soldiers in the Central American National War that occurred between 1856 and 1857 commemorated in the monument at the beginning of one of the main streets of Guatemala City, Avenida Reforma.

An interesting fact is that in the commemorative plaques that surround the monument is possible to read the reference to the freebooter, that was the name given to the pirate in the seventeenth century that were active in the Caribbean Sea. His special feature that distinguished him from other pirates was that they weren’t far from the coast, rather they were in to the edge and plundered coastal towns.

The name of the freebooter recovered in the nineteenth century to name the U.S. adventurers that then tried to play a political role in Mexico and Central America according to Wikipedia.
