Guatemala City Begins

Inicia Ciudad de Guatemala by Rudy A. Girón

Believe it or not, the Calzada Roosevelt is the stretch of road with the most traffic in Central America. The segment of road that begins in Mixco and ends at El Trebol is known Calzada Roosevelt which is part of the Carretera Panamerica (also known as CA-1, short carretera #1), the Pan-American Highway. I was not able to find the newspaper article which has the statistics for the amount of traffic that circulates through Calzada Roosevelt.

In the picture above, you can see signs for Trebol (a junction of roads intersecting at different levels with connecting sections forming the pattern of a four-leaf clover) and Anillo Periférico, an outer circuit, similar to a freeway, but much smaller which now it’s more like an inner circuit since Guatemala City has grown so much that it has engulfed it.

Hugo posted another photo of Calzada Roosevelt with a different perspective a few weeks ago.
