Want to walk? Not in Guatemala City

Rush hour in the city of Guatemala are from 5:00 am to 9:00 am and afternoons from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Few people choose to walk instead of using their vehicle or use public transport.

And who can blame them? Our city is growing and prospering, buildings and new construction are positive, I guess. But in the case of the picture are blocking the way of those who choose to walk.

It is not the first time that we show the problem, but in this case is really sad that there is no respect for pedestrians.

I feel your pain, Hugo.  Here, the city spend millions (!!!) of dollars establishing bike lanes in the street, speed bumps, low speed limits…and people put on their bike helmets, then ride on the sidewalk.  Motos, too.  While we don’t have any buildings encroaching on pedestrian territory, one does occasionally have to fend for one’s life when trying to walk to the store.
