Hidden Nature

Guatemala is a rich country in terms of natural resources. When you go to the countryside you can’t get enough of the amazing landscapes. The city is not as lucky, since there are not many green areas or parks you can enjoy. However, there are some efforts made by different organizations to offset the lack of them. The Botanic Garden of the University of San Carlos is an institution that specializes in education, research and conservation of some of the native plants of the country. They offer guided tours, environmental education activities; consultations on different topics related to botany, among other services. Also, they organize fun workshops, contests and classes such as cooking, photography, etc. The location is Avenida La Reforma 0-63 zona 10, Guatemala, Guatemala. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (you need an appointment on Saturdays). I guess due to the hours they’re open, most of the visitors are students from public and private schools. It would be great if it were open weekends for the public, don’t you think? That would be a great option where people could spend their Sunday morning or afternoon. No matter if you are 8 or 80, contact with nature is essential to your soul!
