Playing Chess at the Mall

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012

I was pleasantly surprised of finding out that something else actually could be done in this commercial boxes. Several groups of people gather at the end of the day at this mall located at Vista Hermosa Boulevard just to play chess. And It gets better, in the same area of the chess players, there’s a pianist playing a few tunes. Which makes all the scene even more enjoyable.

Vista Hermosa Boulevard and The Social Dynamics

Tuesday, October 30th, 2012

It’s both curious and sad how Guatemala City works. How everybody moves through it, and how they react to it. Three hundred thousand people use this main boulevad at zona 15 every day.  It’s caos if you’ll ask me.

Not everyone that makes use of it lives in the area, theres a great deal of people that come here early in the morning in a crappy public trasnsport system, for eight hours of work five days a week (the lucky ones) and they leave by the end of the daylight.

Moving around the city four hours a day to work eight, doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.  Hell, that’s not healthy, it’s insane.

I just read that one of every four guatemalan citizens has some kind of mental disorder.  I wonder why…

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Tuesday, October 30th, 2012

Did you know that October is the month for Breast Cancer Awareness? Every year around the world a lot of activities take place in order to fight against breast cancer. This year Guatemala had several races. Here you have the one called “Juntos por la Cura” and also another picture of Avon campaign in Malls to create awareness and encourage women to practice regularly a breast self examination.

Barriletes :)

Monday, October 29th, 2012

It’s almost November and windy days are the perfect opportunity to fly barriletes.

Do you know places in Guatemala where you can fly them?

Ishto Juevez: I’m still writing songs

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

Finally another musician on stage who entertains and has a message to tell.  Ishto Juevez is a great character, you’ll spend a great time, guaranteed.   The past weekend he was at a music festival that took place at the zoo, located in zona 13 of Guatemala City.

Luna de Miel

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

No Honeymoon is not just for newlyweds is a very enjoyable experience for all! The crepes at this restaurant are very good, the place is small and parking is hard to find but you will not regret it. Located at 16 Calle 5-52 Zona 10, this place is perfect if you want to get out of the ordinary and enjoy good service and good food 🙂

More details of Zone 2

These days we’re a few clicks away. I guess that having all these details today must be very expensive.  How much more has changed and we haven’t noticed? (Or we will find soon)

School year is over

Saturday, October 20th, 2012

And thousands of children begin their vacation at this time. The so-called vacation courses are everywhere in Guatemala City. The parks are full and it will be until January that classes start once again.  By the way, do you know what unschool is all about?  Have you heard anything about it?

Golden Age

Friday, October 19th, 2012

Today in most Guatemalan homes, doorbells are electric. There’s still some samples in the city of a more stylish era. Don’t you think?

Happy weekend everyone!

Mujeres, todas somos lo que llevamos dentro. Sin críticas, ni discriminaciones. Sin juicios, ni reclamos. Somos pureza y sentimiento. Somos pasión, batalla, conquista y seducción. Somos lo que cada una llevamos dentro.

Women, we all are what we have inside. No criticisms. No discrimination. No judgements. No reclaims. We all are purity and emotion. We all are passion, battle, victory and seduction. We all are what we have inside.

no more classes

Sunday, October 14th, 2012

School classes usually finish on October. Vacation are around the corner although not for the ones who have to work but the good thing is that traffic is not so jammed, of course until December, when  Christmas preparations start.

Guatemala Vs Jamaica

Saturday, October 13th, 2012

Winning a soccer game in these days was important. Mainly because Guatemalans are disappointed  due to recently situation of Army and death in Totonicapán. It lifts the spirits a little  bit, at least for one night.  “Pescado Ruiz scored in the 85th minute to give Guatemala a 2-1 win over Jamaica on Friday night in a World Cup qualifier”.
