Aves citadinas

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

As the city has grown, nature and animals have had to adapt to new environment among trees, buildings and houses. Birds are the most playful ones, popping up in unexpected places, by the way, When was the last time you saw a bird? what kind?

Balneario Las Islas

Tuesday, November 27th, 2012

Definitely this place is in Alta Verapaz. A resort that combines swings and waterfalls with lush trees, areas to rest, perfect to share with family or friends. Located at 4 km from San Pedro Carchá.

Do you think people are born with talent?

Plaza Magdalena

Wednesday, November 21st, 2012

Plaza Magdalena in Cobán is a nice place to have lunch with the family, of course Pollo Campero is the favorite. It was a good choice the panes of glass, mixing a great view from the outside with the food court, that kind of thing you don’t see in Guatemala City.

Means of Transport

Monday, November 19th, 2012

There are different ways to get to work in Guatemala City:  motorcycle, public transportation, car, bike or taxi-bike (among others)

If you had the opportunity, Which way would you choose?

I’d like to ride a motorcycle 🙂

Can you see it?

Sunday, November 18th, 2012

Some people like to go with their children to see airplanes take off. They usually park their cars in the street and wait as long as it takes to see the planes. Too bad  security does not allow to have a better view.

Motherhood

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

A typical day in Guatemala: at the background we can see a catholic church named “Iglesia del Carmen”, a mother trying to cross the streets while thinking, probably in all the activities for the day.

What do you think makes a good parent?

Beware of the dog

Tuesday, November 13th, 2012

One thing is for sure, everywhere you go, you’ll find dogs, all types of them! Here a cute doggie watching the entrance

In zone 1 It’s difficult to find parking places, particulary weekdays after 7pm. I’ve heard people say they don’t go to Zone 1 because there’s no parking next to the place they want to go and they would not feel safe walking the streets.

What’s been your experience when visiting Zone 1? Is parking really a deal breaker?

Juice in a plastic bag, with a straw.

orange juice

Orange juice stands like this are a common stop for the blue-collar worker on their daily way to the factory. They can definitely count as breakfast if you ask the kind lady to drop an egg into the mix, and drink it either from a glass or take it in a convenient to-go plastic bag with a straw. And most important: it will always be freshly squeezed in front of you.

Times to think

Sunday, November 11th, 2012

As you might already know  on Wednesday Guatemala suffered a horrible surprise. A magnitude 7.4 earthquake,  killing at least 48 people in San Marcos and injuring about 150. The most affected where western and northwestern areas.

This kind of event makes everybody think about death, the insignificance of human being against nature. But also the challenge to put in action solidarity.

Here in the City, away from the affected areas, another Sunday arrives while people wait to get home , absorved in their own thoughts.

An interesting article in Plaza Pública about Guatemala’s earthquake.

Monday

Monday, November 5th, 2012

Deep in thoughts people get a ride to work, about to start a new week with their daily routine and challenges. It’s Monday.

Guess what time is it

Sunday, November 4th, 2012

After going to a party or having some drinks in Guatemala City there are few places that are open until 3 a.m. Taco Bell is one of them.
