Island of Flores

Islando of Flores
The Island of Flores, last Bastion of the Itza People. Not conquered until 1697!
This is a very well known tourist destination in The Petén, with great food, hotels, shopping malls and nightlife. Stay here for a night and you won’t regret it. Of course, you got to go see the Mayan Ruins all around. Oh! Try the Tostadas 3×10 at The Malecon: on your right after the entrance bridge.

“Maya Ruins all around”, Uaxactun at the end of the mud road north out of Tikal is worth the effort. Aguateca reached viva motor launch from Sayaxche on the Rio de Pasion is one of the better small ruins in the Peten. Nakum is one of my favorites but is accessible only by jeep in good dry conditions. Yaxja should not be missed if one has the time, any car will take you there, it is a hour or so out of Flores.

    • Indeed Norm, Aguateca is Great! the boat ride is nice, you might even see monkeys when you are getting close to Aguateca. There is a place on the way to Aguateca you might consider visiting. It is called: Reforma, its like thirty minutes before Aguateca and there is a hot water and mud spring there.
