Volcán de Fuego

Volcán de Fuego
Volcán de Fuego (of Fire) is a very active volcano, with small eruptions several times a day.

It is located in the borders of three “departamentos”, Chimaltenango, Sacatepéquez and Escuintla and at only 16 kilometers from the colonial city of La Antigua Guatemala.

Less than a mile from the crater.

Hiking up the volcano requires a good physical condition, about 6 hours hike at a good pace. And as most or all Guatemalan volcanoes, the trail lacks signage and there are no maps of the trails, so hiking it requires the accompaniment of a guide. Weather changes rapidly, a minute might be clear and sunny to be followed by cold and strong winds, fog might impaired your navigation and very cold rains are a challenge for hikers.
