Food: Cheese Making in Guatemala

Queso Chiquimulilla
Though Guatemala does not have a ancient tradition on manufacturing cheese, the towns of Taxisco and Chiquimulilla on Guatemalas Pacific Coast are famous for their delicious cheeses.

Cheeses made in these two towns are exported to the entire country.
And the slogan for one of these two towns is “La Cuna del Queso” something like “The Birthplace of Cheese.”
It might have something to do with the colonization of the area by the Spaniards and the Conquistadores. This place was perfect for cattle ranching and the first European settlers took advantage of it to establish large operations here.
