Food: Regional Versus International Chains

Guatemalan Mall Food
A rather interesting phenomena here.

I frequently come to this mall close to my house whenever I do not have enough time to cook at home and my place of choice is this “comedor” food stand where I can find chiles rellenos, carne asada, fideos con crema, pollo en crema, pepian, caldo de gallina, milanesa and a dozen more of Guatemalan dishes.
Next to this food stand there is a famous international pizza place. Often (very very) when I seat to eat there during lunch hours, I see a lot of people buying the same foods I’ve choosen and rarely a person buying pizza. In fact, the other day I went there for lunch and there were about 25 people in line before me and no one single person at the pizza place.

Oh, by the way, for Q20 (less than $2.60 U.S. of A. Dollars) you get your main dish, two sides, a drink and four tortillas. Beat that Pizza!
