Guatemalan History

Facts about Guatemala’s history.

When the declaration of independence was signed, no one person representing the indigenous people was present.
Yesterday I visited a museum with a small collection of replicas commemorating Guatemala’s independence.
There is a famous series of paintings, consisting of three paints, showing that glorious moment. Two of the paints show the interior of the building where it was signed, and the people taking part of the event. The other painting shows the celebration at the town’s plaza.
What’s missing in those painting is the indigenous maya whom in fact represented more than 90% of the population.
