Volcán San Pedro, Guatemala’s most amazing View

Volcán San Pedro
For a long time I held the opinion that Tajumulco Volcano had the most spectacular view in Guatemala.

Well, Volcán San Pedro with 3,000 meter of elevation really changed my mind.
This has been the most well maintained trail I’ve encounter in all of my Guatemala hikes, the trail is mid difficult but most of the time you are covered by a dense canopy.
A birders paradise! There are a couple of birds endemic to the area and if you are patient enough you’ll find them. This volcano is also a sanctuary for other birds, specially hummingbirds which I encounter hundreds (literally) of them.
There is a well-built shelter close to the summit for hikers who want to spend the night.
At the summit you are greeted by a view of the entire Lake Atitlán and the towns surrounding it, flanked to the South-West by volcanoes Toliman and San Lucas.

Hello NYChapin. Indeed we spend the night at the very summit, not at the shelter but weather wasn´t so great so we could not take photos of the fireworks for new years. I´ll share some more photos on my facebook..
