Fishermen of the Canal de Chiquimulilla

Fishermen at the Canal de Chiquimulilla.

This canal was dug up by inhabitants of the town of Chiquimulilla in the late 1800, using pick and shovels. The access roads to the town were inadequate, and the people needed an effective way to bring their product to Guatemala City or the port of San José near by. Now the canal links towns on a 120 kilometers stretch parallel to the coastline.
