Guatemalan Realities, the case of Mariano

In Guatemala’s country side, an indigenous Maya opposes a mining project that has offered to buy up his land to be used as an access road to the mine. Of course he refuses the offer, of course: out of thin air allegations of kidnaping are presented against him by an unknown victim. He is sent to jail while the allegations are disproved. The case is dismissed for lack of evidence. Of course the case is reopened now using “expert’s” testimony against him.

This is the reality in Guatemala’s country side, where corrupt businesses and officials use it as a playground for their vice.
