Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe
On the 12 of December, Guatemalans join the Mexican celebration of the Virgen de Guadalupe.
The Virgen de Guadalupe is probably Mexico´s most venerated deity. The mythology tells that Virgin Mary materialized to the indegenous Chichimecan Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin and the image of the virgin became engraved on Diego´s clothing.
To commemorate this event, ladinos from Mexico and Guatemala dress their children as indigenous people and processions of the virgin take place in many towns.
