Typical Vista from the Highlands of Guatemala by Rudy Giron

Here’s a typical view of the altiplano guatemalteco, Guatemalan highlands, taken somewhere between Huehuetenango and Cuatro Caminos, Totonicapán. I need to take a photographic trip through the highlands; I will soon, I’ll put it on my to do list.

What other photos or places would you like to add to my to-do list?

Sea of Clouds over the Highlands of Guatemala by Rudy Giron

The view above is one that you might encounter when you flight into Guatemala during the rainy season when the country is mostly cover by huge cloud formations. The photo above, however, was taken during the dry season, in a very unusual cloudy day. I like how the clouds seem to be like the sea near a beach.

Have you encountered a sight similar when flying into Guatemala?

Guatemalan Highlands Around Lake Atitlán

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

This is an unusual vista of the mountain range surrounding one of most beautiful lakes of the world, if not the most beautiful, Lago de Atitlán. From this perspective you can see that Lake Atitlán is embedded at the high altitude of the Sierra Madre mountains. Lake Atitlán was formed over ten thousand years ago when a volcano exploded and killed most, if not all, life in a radius of 200 kilometers. Lake Atitlán was formed when the waters of the nearby rivers flooded the hole that was left after the volcano exploded.
